Quick Overview

Liberty’s Security Services Practice Group provides commercial insurance for security guard companies, mobile patrol operators, event and venue security firms, retail loss prevention teams, and executive protection specialists. Coverage includes general liability, errors and omissions / professional liability, workers’ compensation, commercial auto, umbrella and excess, and the protective-services endorsements standard forms leave out — assault and battery, false arrest, personal injury liability, invasion of privacy, malicious prosecution, libel and slander, and lost key coverage. Liberty writes both armed and unarmed posts for single-officer licensees and for multi-state guard companies with thousands of employees on payroll, and has decades of experience working with security professionals across the country.

Industry Risks

The security industry faces risks no standard liability form was written for. Don’t settle for cookie cutter coverage.

A security company gets paid to intervene. That one fact drives nearly every claim in this class. An officer puts hands on a shoplifter, holds someone until police arrive, tells a guest to leave a venue, or draws a weapon — and any of those moments can become an assault and battery, false arrest, or invasion of privacy suit. Standard general liability forms exclude most of it as an intentional act. A large share of the market won’t quote armed posts at all.

Staffing makes it harder. Turnover in guard services runs high enough that screening and training slip, and when an officer incident happens the plaintiff’s first subpoena is for the personnel file. Client contracts have gotten longer at the same time: additional insured status, waivers of subrogation, primary and non-contributory wording, and indemnity language that can push a property owner’s own negligence onto your policy.

A broker who knows this class reads the contract before you sign it. We look at what your client agreements actually obligate you to carry, where your assault and battery sublimit sits relative to your largest post, whether armed officers are scheduled correctly, and which carriers will still be writing protective services at renewal. That work belongs in front of the quote, not after the loss.

Unique Risks for Security Services

Use-of-force incidents and firearms discharge at armed posts
False arrest and wrongful detention claims from retail loss prevention stops
Assault and battery sublimits set far below the policy’s general liability limit
Negligent hiring, training, and background-check failures surfacing after an officer incident
Contractual indemnity and additional-insured demands buried in client service agreements
State licensing, guard-card, and surety bond requirements that change by jurisdiction
High attrition leaving posts staffed by undertrained or lapsed-license officers
Thin carrier appetite for armed posts, close protection work, and crowd control

Who We Serve

Built for the people on post — one licensed officer or a national guard company, we cover both.

Security isn’t one business. A retail loss prevention agent, a patrol driver checking construction sites at 3 a.m., and a protective agent traveling with a principal carry different exposures, different licensing, and different contract demands. Liberty underwrites each of them on their own terms instead of dropping every account into the same guard program.

Coverages

Specialized insurance solutions to protect your security organization.

The difference between a working security policy and a worthless one is usually an endorsement. Two guard companies can carry the same $1 million general liability limit, and only one of them is actually covered when an officer’s restraint of a trespasser turns into a lawsuit. We build the program around the endorsements — assault and battery, false arrest, personal injury, invasion of privacy, malicious prosecution, libel and slander — then check the sublimits against the contracts you’ve already signed rather than against a boilerplate spec.

Liberty places these accounts with carriers that write protective services deliberately, which matters most on armed posts, close protection details, and crowd control, where general market appetite runs thin. Where your contracts call for it we can add wage freeze provisions, property and business income, large excess auto limits for patrol fleets, and fidelity coverage for officers with key or cash access. Availability and terms vary by carrier and state.
