One of Florida’s oldest and largest not-for-profit health plans, AvMed has served the state from its Miami headquarters since 1969. You can buy individual and family coverage in counties including Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Alachua, and employer group medical plans are available in most of the state. Sentara Health completed its acquisition of AvMed at the end of 2022, putting the plan under a larger integrated health system that now serves close to 1.2 million members. Medicare Advantage plans in Florida were discontinued effective December 31, 2025, so the current book is commercial individual and group business. AvMed carries no AM Best financial strength rating; AM Best affirmed and then withdrew its B (Fair) rating in March 2022 at the company’s request.
