Medica is a nonprofit health plan serving roughly a million members across Minnesota and the surrounding upper Midwest and plains states. It began in 1975 when the Hennepin County Medical Society launched Physicians Health Plan, Minnesota’s first open-access HMO, and took the Medica name after a 1991 merger with Share Health Plan. You can get employer group medical coverage, individual and family plans on and off the exchange, Medicare Advantage and Part D, and Medicaid plans depending on your state. Claim status, explanations of benefits, ID cards, and premium payments are all handled inside your secure Medica member account, with autopay available. AM Best does not currently rate Medica.
