Quartz is provider-owned, which is the short version of why the plan and the care network answer to the same people: UW Health, Gundersen Health System, and UnityPoint Health Meriter jointly own the company. The Quartz brand launched in 2017 when Unity Health Insurance, Gundersen Health Plan, and Physicians Plus combined, though its oldest underwriting entity traces back to 1994. You can buy individual and family ACA plans, employer group coverage, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement, and BadgerCare Plus Medicaid, and Quartz also administers self-funded employer plans as a third-party administrator. Coverage runs across southern and western Wisconsin plus parts of Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota. Quartz does not carry an AM Best financial strength rating, which is typical of nonprofit provider-sponsored plans.
